Angle and Channels

With the wide range of products available at National Steel, we can deliver the products needed for your construction and manufacturing requirements. We have continued to supply our customers with quality steel products and keep getting positive feedback.

What is angle/channel?

Angles are commonly used in the construction of buildings, equipments, vehicles, and other objects that we use in our everyday lives. They are very cheap and quite reliable for use as supporting structures in construction. Angles are steel structures with L cross-section in which the length of the legs could either be equal or unequal and the angle between the legs is 90 degrees.

A channel is a hot-rolled mild steel structure that is C-shaped. The structure has a long vertical web and two flanges. Channels can be used both in indoor and outdoor applications. Steel channels are much lighter and more flexible than other structures but it usually experience twisting under certain loading types.

Manufacturing of angle/channel

Angle irons are manufactured using a roll former.  A roll former has several rollers and these rollers are used to turn a bar of metal into an angle iron. Using this machine, one is guaranteed a product of the highest quality and of uniform dimensions.

Steel channels are mild steel structures that have been hot-rolled and shaped into having C cross-section. Steel channels are usually produced to conform with the grade ASTM A36.

Quality Assurance

Our long and successful history in steelmaking means you can be assured of re¢erying top quality billets for your production lines.

Technical support from our specialists

Our team of experienced metallurgists provides dedicated technical support to our customers fa ensure our products meet your exacting requirements

Billet identification

Our billets are each hard stamped with a 5-digit cast number, ensuring traceability. If the hard stamp is illegible or missing, a paint stencil can be used as an alternative.

Types of angle/channel:

C Channel

The C Channel is a very common component in construction works. It is manufactured from hot-rolled steel and is generally made up of a wide flat surface and two flanges which are at right angles to both ends.

The C Channel is very durable and because of the surfaces that are broad and flat, it can be easily attached to other items. It is also strong enough to be used as a source of support for other structures, especially in bridge decks.

C channel steel is found in many different sizes. This allows it to be useful in many industries especially in the production of vehicles because using channel makes the finished products to be light in weight compared to other types of channels. The size and grade of the C channel that is required is determined by using the specification number.

H beam

H-beam is a very strong beam made of rolled steel. It is called the H-beam because its cross-section looks like the capital letter H. It has wide flanges and so is sometimes referred to as the Wide Flange beam.

The width of the beam is the flange and the height is the web. These are part of the variables used in specifying an H-beam as its specifications are usually expressed in as height × flange width. Each combination of height × flange width has a standard cross-section.

Height × Flange width Standard cross section
100 × 100 8
125 × 125 8
150 × 150 8
175 × 175 13
200 × 200 13
250 × 250 13
300 × 300 13
350 × 350 13
400 × 400 22

I beam

The I-beam has cross section shaped like a capital I. It is made of two horizontal components called flanges which are connected by a vertical plane called the web.

The height of the web is larger than the width of the flanges. The I-beam usually has its specifications expressed as flange width × web width.
